Gathering Systems

Advancing Leak Detection and Localization in Complex Gathering Systems through Innovative Pressure Sensing and Machine Learning

Explore our joint solution development project with TOKU, leveraging high-frequency pressure sensors and machine learning to improve leak detection, localization, and verification in complex gathering systems.

Compressible Fluids

AI-Driven Leak Detection in CO₂, natural gas, and NGL pipelines through innovative AI and physics-based solutions

Pipelines transporting compressible products like CO₂, natural gas, NGLs, and olefins are crucial to the energy sector. However, detecting leaks in these pipelines presents significant challenges due to the complex behavior of compressible fluids. To address this, we have initiated a two-year research project funded by the Wyoming Energy Authority’s Energy Matching Funds initiative. Our goal is to develop a robust leak detection framework that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) with traditional physics models, enhancing safety, environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.

Compressible Fluids

Expanding Leak Detection Capabilities for Compressible Pipelines with AI and Physics Integration

The purpose of this project is to improve the monitoring of pipelines transporting compressible hydrocarbon products, using cutting-edge technologies. The grant, part of the Core Research FY24 Solicitation RA10, will support the development of a new leak detection system designed for pipelines transporting complex hydrocarbon products such as natural gas, NGLs, LPG, and olefins.

Our solution enhances real-time leak detection for pipelines by leveraging advanced AI, signal processing, and physical modeling, all while using existing pipeline instrumentation to ensure easy integration and deployment across various pipelines.
